The Severe Impact of Climate Change on Developing Countries

چکیده
global temperature has increased from 13.7 to 14.3 degrees Celsius. The 1990s were, in many respects, the warmest years of the 20th century. Most of the world’s glaciers have receded over the last few decades. The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere—the chief cause of the greenhouse effect—has risen from 280 parts per million (ppm) to 360 ppm since the start of the Industrial Revolution, through the burning of fossil fuels. The buildup of greenhouse gases is the most likely cause of the growing incidence of extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts.1 An Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), established by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), has been issuing increasingly sobering reports on disruption to the global climate since May 1990. In the most recent report “Climate Change 2001—Impacts, Adaption, and Vulnerability,” published in July 2001,2 a panel of high-ranking scientists and social scientists grappled with the question of the influence of climate change on the living conditions of humanity. In the ninth chapter of this comprehensive, 1,000-page work, epidemiologists from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and other institutions outlined the influence of global warming on human health in various parts of the world. Climate change is merely one of many factors influencing the genesis of diseases, and it is often difficult for epidemiologists to separate out the socioeconomic and demographic influences. It is also difficult to predict future developments in

A Review of the Effects of Climate Change with an Emphasis on Burden of Waterborne Diseases
Background and Purpose: Climate change has major impact on water cycle, resulting in effects on water resources, the frequency and severity of droughts, floods due to severe rainfall, natural environments, society, and economics and human health. In this paper, surveys on different models of climate change as well as the effects of climate change on the burden of waterborne diseases and also, ...
متن کاملFarmers’ Perception Regarding Impact of Climate Change on Wheat Crop Production in Layyah District-Pakistan
Pakistan is at 28th amongst the countries that are going to be hurt badly by climate change. It falls in ten major wheat-producing countries of the world in terms of area, production and yield per hectare. Global warming, as a result of climate change, may negatively affect morphological characters of wheat. The present study was undertaken in district Layyah to find out the impact of climate c...
متن کاملClimate Change and Crop Yields in Iran and Other OIC Countries
Climate change is the main phenomenon that directly affects the world environment, and changes in the environment affect economic sectors differently. The most important impacts of climate change would be on enhancing the average global temperature and the decrease in precipitation. The agricultural sector is the first and most affected sector in the climate change. We examined the impact of te...
متن کاملA Deductive Approach to the Relationship between Climate Change and Aquaculture Sector
This paper addresses the relationship between climate change and aquaculture sector through comparing the contribution of developed and developing countries in gas emission (CO2) and aquaculture production. As long as aquaculture industry is vital source of food and revenue for most developing countries, their livelihood presumably would be affected negatively by global warming. Examining data ...
متن کاملClimate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence
West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...
متن کاملCombating Climate Change: The Role of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Climate change and its possible impacts on the environment and socio-economic systems now constitute the most important environmental problem facing mankind in the 21st century. Climate change will increase poverty and hardship, endanger food security, destabilize economies, decrease food and water and create social insecurity in many countries and undermine our goals for achieving sustainable ...
